September 28: Good King (St.) Wenceslas

Yes, this is the same figure that is sung about in the traditional Christmas carol and he is an Orthodox Saint!  Amazon.com offers a delightful book, wonderfully illustrated in color, that tells an episode from the life of St. Wenceslas that follows the wording of the carol.
The King was known for his care for the poor—what a wonderful example!

When my daughter was younger, I bought this book for her and we learned to sing the carol together.  It is a St. Stephen's Day carol written back in 1853, and we still sing it today. Lovely!  Worth getting.  http://www.amazon.com/Good-King-Wenceslas-John-Neale/dp/0802852092/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1443414872&sr=1-2&keywords=good+king+wenceslas

ORTHODOX AMERICA has an excellent hagiography of St. Wenceslas:  http://www.roca.org/OA/45/45f.htm

Holy martyr, Wenceslas, pray to God for us!
